KIDS ICE-SKATING DISCO AT THE PATINOIRE DE CAROUGE

Take the kids along to the outdoor ice skating rink in Carouge for a fun disco night on Friday 12th January 2018. Let them enjoy themselves while you enjoy a glass of vin chaud (well, you’ll need something to keep yourself warm!).

WHERE: The Patinoire de Carouge, place de Sardaigne, 1227 Carouge, Genève.

WHEN: Friday 12th of January 2018 from 6pm-8pm.

COST: FREE with own skates, or skate hire 2CHF.

MOTOWN NIGHT AT THE VILLAGE DU SOIR 

Love Motown classics from Diana Ross, the Jackson Five, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder? This is the night for you! Friday 12th January 2018 at the Epicerie, the Village du Soir.

LA GRANDE ODYSSÉE

Take a day trip out of Geneva to the beautiful village of Samoëns in France (60km from Geneva, approximately 1 hour drive) to experience the opening day of the canine equivalent of the Tour de France!

Now in its 14th year, La Grande Odyssée sees teams of mushers and their husky dogs from twelve different countries race over two weeks.

Kicking off on Saturday 13th January 2018, the village of Samoëns will see the gathering of 250 husky dogs, 25 international teams for a unique race covering 1,000km.

On Sunday 14th January 2018, the 1st stage of the race will start, from Morillon to Les Carroz (arriving in Les Carroz at approximately 5pm).

WHERE: Samoëns, France (60km from Geneva, approximately 1 hour drive)

WHEN: Saturday 13th January 2018 from 2pm onwards.

COST: Free

ICE SKATING ON THE SALÈVE

The ice skating rink has returned to the top of the Salève for its second year running – the only ice skating rink in the area at 1100m altitude with an incredible view of Lake Geneva and the surrounding area. Skates can be rented at the téléphérique (from sizes 26 plus). Not into skating? Snow shoes and sledges can also be rented for the day at very reasonable rates (4€/2€ respectively).

WHERE: Top of the Salève, next to the Téléphérique.

WHEN: Friday, Saturday and Sundays from 1pm-4.30pm until the end of March (weather permitting).

COST: 3€ an hour (for téléphérique users) or 9€ if not. Payment by cash only in € or CHF.

ZERO WASTE TALK

Life without waste! Are you ready to take the Zero Waste Challenge? A practical workshop takes place on Thursday 18th January 2018, for people who want to contribute to a healthier, more sustainable future for the planet and a healthier lifestyle for themselves and their families. Learn how to reduce your household waste and find more sustainable solutions in the areas of Food, Drink and Eating outside the home, whatever your reasons for doing it – a better ecological footprint, improved health, significant cost savings … or just to see if you can! You’ll learn concrete new habits to reduce waste and where to find the shops/sites in and around Geneva to do them. Join like-minded individuals and learn all you’d like to know about Zero Waste.

VERNISSAGE AT THE QUARTIER DES BAINS

The Quartier des Bains association, aims to encourage and promote contemporary art in the Quartier des Bains area in Geneva (close to Plainpalais) which has become the platform for contemporary art in Switzerland over the past few years. On Thursday 18th January 2018 it will hold a vernissage – an opportunity to see preview new art collections at 10 galleries, 3 cultural institutions and 4 non profit spaces and of course, to make the most of the evening in this great part of town, with its cool restaurant and bar scene.

WHERE: Quartier des Bains area.

WHEN: Thursday 18th January 2018 from 7pm-9pm.

AFTERWORK AT THE MAH

The popular afterwork parties at the Museum of Art and History (MAH) continue on Thursday 18th January 2018 with the inauguration of a program of events commemorating the centenary of the death of Ferdinand Hodler. An invitation to browse the museum and to learn about this great Swiss artist, unveiled from every angle. On the programme – speed dating and workshops, with DJ Kay and bar and restaurant by Le Barocco.

SALON INTERNATIONAL DE LA HAUTE HORLOGERIE

Professionals, journalists, collectors and watch enthusiasts will travel from all four corners of the globe to be in Geneva from 15th to 19th January 2018 to attend this Fine Watchmaking event.

For the second time only, the SIHH is opening its door to members of the general public for the Open Day on Friday 19th January 2018, following the success of the first edition last year. A great opportunity to discover new collections and find out what the trends are in watchmaking for 2018. And with 35 exhibitors displaying their latest and best products – including Audemars Piguet, Baume & Mercier, Cartier, Hermes, Mont Blanc, Piaget, Vacheron Constantin and Van Cleefs & Arpels there will certainly be enough impressive ‘wrist candy’ on show.

MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS 

Running at Ciné 17 until Tuesday 16th January 2018. A lavish train ride unfolds into a stylish & suspenseful mystery. From the novel by Agatha Christie, Murder on the Orient Express tells of thirteen stranded strangers & one man’s race to solve the puzzle before the murderer strikes again.
