Find out what we love about this dentist in Geneva – especially in corona times.
Where: Clinique Hygiène Dentaire
By Alexandra Osváth
I’m not going to admit how long it’s been since I’d been to the dentist… With COVID, I just wasn’t comfortable getting my teeth cleaned since I’d have to be sans mask, of course. I’ve been going to Clinique Hygiène Dentaire for the past 3 years, and when they offered me a chance to come back – and reassured me about their COVID prevention measures – I decided it’s high time to give it a go. Here’s how it went, and why I’ve been a happy patient for so long!
I’d originally chosen the clinic after a not-so-nice experience elsewhere. I did tons of research on Google reviews about various clinics in Geneva, searching for a friendly, professional place that was really great at keeping teeth pearly white. I’ve now seen several dental hygienists at Clinique Hygiène Dentaire over the years and they’ve all been wonderful and helped me keep my teeth clean (and gums happy) despite my caffeine habits!
A CHEERY, FRIENDLY DENTAL CLINIC IN GENEVA
I can’t help but smile at the first sign I see as I walk in: “Please keep 10 toothbrushes apart.” It’s definitely the cheeriest dentist’s office I’ve ever been to, from a fun display of pastel-coloured toothbrushes, dentist-themed mobile phone covers, and green succulents to a Pinterest-perfect coffee corner in the waiting area. There’s even a social media station, where you can snap a photo, video, GIF, or boomerang to upload to your favourite social platform. I love the funny posters on the shelves, too. Who said dentists can’t get creative?!
Candles and t-shirts with clever sayings are for sale at reception, with a majority of the proceeds going to the Swiss Red Cross.
GOING TO THE DENTIST IN GENEVA DURING COVID-19
After taking my temperature as I enter, the receptionist gives me a little bottle of hand sanitizer and I take a seat in the waiting area. The dental hygienists coordinate on the go to keep the number of people waiting to a minimum, maintaining social distancing between patients.
I’ve barely sat down when my new dental hygienist, Laura, comes over to greet me. She knows I’m a little nervous about getting my teeth cleaned in COVID times, and helps me feel much more comfortable. Laura explains that they already had a rigourous disinfection process between patients in place even before coronavirus, so that hasn’t changed much – but they’ve also added new measures.
Dental hygienists now wear FFP2 masks all day long, as well as face shields when they’re in close proximity with patients. Laura opts for a protective hair covering, too.
The clinic has installed new air filtering systems in the rooms that don’t have an outside window to make sure the air is cleaned out between patients.

NO MORE COFFEE STAINS
I settle in the dentist chair, and when I lay back I’m perfectly positioned to watch TV… on the ceiling! There are Bose headphones available in case I’d like to block out noise.
Laura starts off by using ultrasound vibrations to break down most of the tartar on my teeth. She then uses a curette to scrape off any tartar that’s left. She polishes my teeth at the end to get rid of any plaque and small stains – if you’re a coffee and tea drinker like me, this is the best part!
PREVENTION IS KEY
My gums are pretty sensitive, so Laura explains to me how I need to brush my teeth to make sure I don’t hurt my gums. Believe it or not, a back-and-forth brushing motion can actually cause your gums to recede!
Laura gives me several samples of products that can help my sensitive gums, and also prevent cavities at the same time. Laura suggests taking x-rays to track the progress of a possible cavity, and I agree it’s a good idea. Afterwards she shows me the images compared with last year’s and explains the structure of the tooth and the area we need to keep an eye on. I’m not the best at flossing regularly but the threat of a possible cavity is now making me extra diligent!
I love their slogan around the clinic: #Tooth ensemble pour la prevention! Get it?!
OUR VERDICT
Before I found Clinique Hygiène Dentaire I never actually looked forward to getting my teeth cleaned, but they’ve converted me! Not only is it a friendly atmosphere with fun décor, but they give really great personalized advice on how to best take care of your teeth.
Huge thanks to CHD for such great dental care over the years and for sponsoring this article, and for my goodie bag of great products to take home!
