THE CONCEPT

So what is it that makes the citizenM hotels so special?

Apart from great central city locations, the experience is streamlined and smart – featuring the latest high-tech amenities, guaranteed to impress even the grumpiest teenager.

It also honestly has the most comfortable XL king-size beds with luxury pillows and duvets; super-powered showers; HD TVs with free movie libraries, and superfast free Wi-Fi for working, streaming and surfing.

All 144 of the citizenM rooms in Geneva are perfectly designed for a maximum of two citizens and are controlled via the bedside MoodPad (adapted iPad) or the free citizenM app – with a single tap or swipe, guests can change the temperature, lower the blinds, browse movie libraries, or change their room lights to any colour. Mobile travellers will appreciate the unique pre-set TV moods by Brainwaves – a light-and-sound combination in three versions: sleep, focus, and anti-anxiety. Trust me getting a teenager to leave the room to do sightseeing is a challenge!

In fact, getting myself out the door was hard at times.

The bright and colourful communal living rooms make you feel right at home with contemporary art and books. In Geneva the hotel rises above the ground-floor retail units up to the 7th floor. On the first floor, the lounge is U-shaped and wrapped around a beautiful inner courtyard which reaches down to the retail floor.

It has comfy seating and meeting and work spaces with loads of natural light and a relaxed vibe.

CitizenM hotels usually features local art and for citizenM Geneva, photography masters students from the École cantonale d’art de Lausanne (ECAL) created facade banners and in-room works on the theme of ‘time’. Front-of-house indoor art is by Geneva-born world-acclaimed artist Kimou Meyer (Grotesk). He has contributed a multi-surface wallpaper and canteenM ceiling mural entitled ‘Le Dernier Tram’ – inspired by memories of late nights out with his friends, partying too late and missing the last tram home. The colours are inspired by Geneva’s flag and Lac Leman.

We haven’t tried the canteenM kitchen in Geneva yet, but we loved the varied canteen breakfasts with lots of healthy options in London, as well as the inspiring lunch and dinner menu. The kitchen is open 24/7 for mobile citizens arriving from all time zones. serving hot and cold local food and drinks.

Guests will be able to enjoy food from some of our favourite local restaurants and cafés such as Street Gourmet and Boreal Café and Les Passeurs du Vin.  The bar is also open to non-residents from 6.30 till late.

It sounds like a cliché, but we did find the service to be exceptional during our stay in London. They coped with our tantrums, moods and some quite unreasonable demands in a graceful, professional and extremely helpful manner.  They even served me a delicious much-needed cocktail when they could tell that that was what I needed to cope with my family!
