Peter Solo had a vision: to combine the scales of Voodoo chants from Togo with the 70s sounds of Afro-funk. His band is called Vaudou Game, with three albums to their name full of crisp, top-sounding tracks. The latest record Otodi bears the name of the vintage studio in which it was made. Zany lyrics, protest songs and analogue sound, Vaudou Game reminds us that funk is deeply connected to trance.
More trance with BCUC for “Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness” which translates as “man walking towards freedom of conscience”. A bass, two bass drums, congas, whistles, vocals, all this conducted by the declamations of a master of ceremony. The band from Soweto which has overwhelmed audiences everywhere, features Femi Kuti and Saul Williams on its album and gives ecstatic concerts that will brighten up everyone’s day!
