Summer is all about al fresco eating – picnics by the lake, restaurants next to the lake and now also lunch on a floating terrace on the Lac Léman, thanks to a new concept by Bateaux Terrasses.
Two boats moored next to each other opposite the Kempinski hotel offer lunch and dinner, as well as party cruises.
We went to check out their lunch menu.
A COOL BREEZE ON DECK
From our table on the small deck – which only have a few high tables and chairs – we have a view of the Jet d’Eau and a cool breeze and closeness to the water immediately improve my mood, which had been sweltering along with the temperature.
We order an Apèrol Spritz (CHF12) and a Pink Lady (CHF13 – with grapefruit, pink syrup and prosecco – to add to the chill factor. The boat sways gently as we sip our cocktails and catch up. Life is good…

A LIGHT LADIES’ LUNCH

The lunch menu is not extensive, but it includes some lovely fresh sounding options.
I go for the marinated salmon poké bowl with edamame beans and quinoa (CHF26) and my regular lunch companion, Caro Blackwell of Tasteofsavoie.com, opts for the sea bream tartar with Asian noodles and edamame beans. (CHF28)
The presentation is very pretty on stripy plates and the dishes are lovely and fresh and compares well with similar dishes on menus around town. I fancy myself as somewhat of a poké bowl fundi and although this is not the best one I’ve ever had, it’s very nice.
I’ve had a few very oily poké bowls around town. This one gets the sauce just right.
The sea bream tartar is nicely flavoured and the noodles make for an interesting combination.
STRAWBERRIES AND CREAM
For dessert we try the Café Gourmand – coffee with a selection of small pastries (CHF12) which the waitress assures us are home-made, but most definitely are not!
Instead opt for a light and tasty vanilla ‘sand’ with strawberries and cream. (CHF9)

OUR VERDICT

The floating lunch experience is lovely to cool down on a boiling day with some good options for a light, summery lunch – great for a mid-week ladies-lunch.
Book in advance.
so geneva, so beautiful and friendly if you like high price for low quality, smell of urine, more or less all around and annoying drug dealers.
So geneva.
Urine?? Why? Not cheap though but quality of main course was good imo.
