Hygge’s DIY Workshops

Are you keen to create your own Nordic-influenced furniture or accessories for your home? We tested the Hygge DIY workshops and came home with a stunning wooden table lamp, which now has pride of place in my daughter’s bedroom.
Hygge’s shop has been open since the beginning of December 2016, selling beautiful scandi wares in the Quarter des Bains/Finances area of town. As mentioned in my previous article on where to buy Scandi Style items for your home (see my article here), their regular DIY workshops are now up and running.
If you too are keen to create your own scandi-influenced item for your home, it can be done! We tested the Hygge DIY workshops and can happily recommend them to you. Here’s how:
Their table lamp workshop fortunately coincided with the February half term holiday, so I signed up my 12 year old daughter and I. Having never done any woodwork previously, my daughter was excited but also quite apprehensive. She needn’t have been. We were in safe hands and it turned out to be the perfect mummy/daughter bonding experience!
Manon, one of the shop’s owners, took charge of the workshop on the day and after a welcome chat, we were set to work. We were given instructions sheets, (beautifully designed by their illustrator friend Merryl Lynn) that were not only super cute, but very clear and concise.
Manon was on hand, to guide us through the process from beginning to end. From cutting the lengths of wood needed, sanding, drilling, painting and assembling – we did it all ourselves with super impressive results, as you can see.
Just two hours later, we left with a huge feeling of accomplishment and lovely memories of a shared experience. My daughter arrived back home and re-arranged her bedroom to welcome her new, beautiful table lamp. Success!
