NEW LAKESIDE TERRACES IN GENEVA – 2019
by Chené Koscielny
Summer is getting into full swing in Geneva with the start of music festivals, open-air film festivals and theatre shows this month. Add to that 3 brand new lakeside pop-up terraces – opening this week and next week – and you have no reason to leave the city for greener pastures this year.
The new venues located on the quais of Mont-blanc, General-Guisan and the Rhône, form part of the rich summer programme offered by the Ville de Geneve in partnership with local businesses to ensure locals and tourists squeeze every last drop out of the season.
CITY OPENS 3 NEW POP-UP SUMMER TERRACES
Designed to welcome everyone, including families, the three new terraces will offer a variety of activities from music shows to children’s workshops and comedy.
BRONZETTE – French, Italian and German touches
The idea here is to create “an ambiance somewhere between an Italian bagni, German ‘biergarten’ and French theatre café.”
This works well – with little round tables for the French section, gemütliche benches for the beer garden and deck chairs for the Italian bagni area. There is also a sand pit and play area for little ones.
There will be live performances, including music concerts, stand-up comedy – in English and French in collaboration with the Caustic Comedy Club in Carouge, free yoga sessions and magic shows.
On the food side, you can choose between raclette from the raclette stand, grilled chicken (poulet roti), which looks amazing and sausages, as well as Italian homemade ice-cream.
This venue is run by The Hamburger Foundation.
