CAFÉ RESTAURANT DU QUAI
by Kristiana Psee
I visited café-restaurant du Quai with a good friend on a warm, sunny day when the vibes of the city felt unbearable and I urgently needed an escape. Hermance has always been a favorite location for me in the canton of Geneva. A small village on the lake where Switzerland touches France and where it feels as if time has stopped. The café-restaurant du Quai is located just by the shore of the lake so it offers a plentiful view of the mountains, water, as well as the swans and ducks splashing around and it’s just 2 minutes away from the Hermance beach in case you feel like a swim.
THE ATMOSPHERE
The interior of the restaurant is simple, pleasant and fresh and equally suited to accommodating banquets, family celebrations or every day moments.
WHAT TO EAT
The menu offers various options for all tastes and preferences. The owners of Le Quai proud themselves on offering mainly local meat and fish – and you’ll find the exact origin of your meal on their website and menu. There are enough options to choose from whether you prefer fish, meat or pasta. The appetisers consists of fine summery salads, a gaspacho of green tomatoes and prawns or a fine, mixed salad with crunchy veggies and cherry tomatoes to prepare the palette for more and some other light options to start with. We chose a fish dish, the fresh local perch fish (from the lake of course) with French fries and salad and the sautéed Penne Rigate with aubergines and large prawns and tomato. Both dishes were exquisite! The portions are generous, the taste delicious and super gourmand! We accompanied our meal with a beautiful chilled rosé. Simply gorgeous!
The restaurant also offers a special menu for kids.
PRICES
We found the prices reasonable considering the generous portions and Genevois standards. The perches was CHF39 and the Penne Rigate was CHF32.
OUR VERDICT
We’d highly recommend Café du Quai to enjoy a fine meal by the lake and experience fine cuisine by chef Jerôme Manifacier. I’d advise you to reserve, especially on weekends.
