MAMA & ZITA – A WELCOME ADDITION TO NATIONS IN GENEVA
by Laura from Let’s Explore
Newly opened restaurant Mama & Zita in Geneva’s Nations area perfectly combines different styles and flavours and is exactly what the area of the UN and International Organisations needed! A bistrot chic style restaurant, a relaxed breakfast (home-made pastries) and take-away lounge, and a relaxed after-work drinks area with tapas. New hotspot Mama & Zita welcomes you from 7:30 in the morning until dinner.
The Café is homely decorated with a mix of chic, and colourful Mediterranean design. For a moment you might think you are in a trendy café in a metropolis. We loved the coffee area with the coloured tiles and dark leather sofas.

The two chefs at Mama & Zita are from Italy and Morocco and some of their friendly staff members lived in Greece. Together, they create beautifully presented and delicious Mediterranean dishes!
In their kitchen, you will see their amazing Neapolitan pizza oven which the owner, Younes, went to pick up himself in Naples. A part from its cool design, this oven also bakes your pizza in only 60 seconds due to the high temperature obtained in the electric oven.
A signature dish on their evening menu is their mezze platter to share as a starter, which makes you travel from Greece to Morocco and Lebanon. We highly recommend you try this!
We also tried their pizza – lovely crust and just what the doctor ordered on a grey winter’s day. The impressive fondant of zucchini stuffed with a creamy potato and parmesan mousse, was also really good. They offer a daily speciality – for example couscous, kefta tajine or sicilian chicken – check the website for the specials of the week.
There are lots of choices for vegetarians on the menu and the restaurant has a separate dining room that seats 8 for a more intimate lunch or dinner.
You should definitely finish off with their fresh mint tea which is served in a lovely oriental style tin tea pot.

In case you don’t have time for a sit-down lunch, their take-away area has salads, focaccia & sandwiches, all in Mediterranean style.

I’d say “Finally a SECOND decent restaurant in Nations”. Bali Indonesia is excellent. http://www.baliindonesia.ch/ It’s where the “La Cachette” used to be. It’s a wee bit hidden but well worth finding. I’m looking forward to trying Mama and Zita. Thanks to TtdiG for all the useful ideas you provide every week.
