ENJOY A REFRESHING PICNIC DINNER BY THE LAKE
MOLOKAI – FUSION POKÉ BAR
by Alana Dunsmore
When it’s boiling outside, we often find it way too hot to do any cooking in our apartment.
The easiest thing to do is to pack some food and head to the lake front near our apartment for a picnic dinner, hoping to catch the cool breeze off Lake Geneva. After a while sandwiches can be boring, which is why we were excited to try a poké bowl from Molokai in our basket for our picnic dinner.

THE VENUE
Molokai Fusion Poké Bar is located in Eaux-Vives on Rue du Rhône 67, close to Jardin Anglais, so, what better place for a picnic?
Jardin Anglais is a popular spot for locals and tourists. The park is next to the lake, opposite the Jet d’Eau. In addition, it’s close to the famous flower clock, and its location offers beautiful views of the various mountains that surround Geneva. The park has lots of space and many shady spots.

WHAT IS IN OUR PICNIC BASKET FOR 2?

Molokai has a variety of choices for all tastes. We don’t eat seafood due to allergies, so I was a bit worried that the choice would be limited because I had the misconception that poké bowls, were mainly fish. It was a pleasant surprise to see all the choices including non-water creatures.
When we pick up our food it takes us a while to decide because everything sounds so yummy! My picnic date (my husband) chooses Tropical Beef. His bowl includes rice, dried meat, carrots, pomegranate, pineapple, avocado, crispy onions, coriander and Molokai sauce.
I decide to have Jungle Chicken. It sounds too exciting to pass up even though ordering chicken on a menu goes against all my usual rules of eating out since it’s a staple in our household. This dish includes lentils, spices, chicken, onions, mushrooms, zucchini with a parsley sauce, grilled peanuts, onions, and rose tahini sauce.
It is fun to watch them assemble the poké bowls. We have no doubts the bowls are going to be full!
We choose their refreshing Vitalay Iced Tea for drinks. I had the Moroccan Green Mint Tea and my husband picked Bali Green Ginger Tea.
Note: They also offer you the option of assembling your own poké bowl.
THE COST
Jungle Chicken CHF22
Tropical Beef CHF23
Moroccan Green Mint Tea CHF5.90
Bali Green Ginger Tea CHF5.90

OUR VERDICT

The Molokai Fusion Poké bar is perfect for a hot day! The food is fresh, yummy and different from other local places offering meals to go. Perfect to mix things up for a picnic in the park. Being so close to the lake makes it a great, easy choice for your next picnic. Given the quality, variety and generous portions, we think the cost is reasonable for Geneva.
