FROM the 6th of August POLP – the pop-up restaurant run by the Mad Chef in Eaux-Vives proposes a crayfish roll at the moment! We’ve tried the octopus pita a few weeks ago and loved the fresh taste!
This quirky pop-up restaurant run by famous local chef Walter el Nahar, also knows as the mad chef, is serving passers-by fresh and deliciously different meals from a take-away window on the street in Eaux Vives.
We tried the non-fried, fresh, minced octopus a few weeks ago (quite reluctantly at first) – which I have to say was quite delicious served in a home-baked sour dough pita from a local baker, stuffed with smoked burrata and topped with jalapeños, capers and seasoning.
The pop-up take-away will operate until November and promises to offer something different every month – this week’s menu: lobster roll – I’m going to check it out today!
TOP TIP: Get their early – as Walter only serves a certain number of portions each day.
Walter is a real character around town and looks as eccentric as the dishes he serves with his upturned moustache! A creative serial restaurant founder, he recently helped to open the Fiske Bar in the Hotel de la Paix and Susuru (ramen restaurant in Rue de Stand).
Never one to sit still, Walter is working hard on his next project, a novel restaurant concept that he plans to open in mid-August:
TOTALLY DIFFERENT FOOD CONCEPTS FOR GENEVA
Cinqième Jour (Fifth day) will introduce two totally new concepts to Geneva:
A restaurant serving customers around a chef’s counter – only 12 visitors will sit around the chef as he prepares his creative, world cuisine inspired by years spent in Russia, LA and other parts of the world .
And even more unusual: For four days the restaurant will serve food to members of the public and on the fifth day they will open their doors to the city’s homeless!
We can’t wait to find out more! Watch this space.
