LES TERRASSES DU 82 – PARC DES EAUX-VIVES GENEVA
by Chené Koscielny
Sometimes your soul needs some soothing – a quiet moment in a beautiful spot with a stunning view (and of course, some comfort food). When next you need to fuel your soul – Les Terrasses du 82 in Parc des Eaux-Vives is such a place. From your table on the terrace, you are shrouded by age-old trees and the view of the lake is endless. Meanwhile, a little fountain at the foot of the stairs to the historic main building dating from 1750, adds a magical air.
A STUNNING OASIS FOR LOCALS
I’ve been in the Parc des Eaux-Vives many times before, of course, for picnics and business conferences, but somehow, I thought the restaurant was aimed at tourists.
But the launch of the summer menu at the Parc des Eaux-Vives restaurant les Terrasses du 82 – has caught my eye.
Since July 2020, the terrace is open every day from 9 am to 7 pm – making it the ideal place to meet up with friends after a morning jog, for a lazy lunch or an afternoon tea with pastries and homemade ice-cream.

INSPIRING SUMMER MENU

Lunch on a terrace needs to lift the spirits. It calls for fresh flavours, bright colours and a light touch. Chef Jérôme Manifacier gets it just right.
The selection of ‘summer delights’ is wide and varied and includes popular Geneva staples such as a beef tartare from the famous Boucherie du Moulard and the ubiquitous perche du lac.
We start with local tomatoes and burrata with basil, crunchy vegetables and foccacia (CHF17 as a starter), as well as a cod ceviche with citrus and mango and pickled onions (CHF18 as a starter)
Both are totally Instagram-able, as well as tasty, light and flavourful.
KEEPING IT LIGHT

For the mains, I go with the flow and surrender to the chef’s inspiration of the day – mushroom-stuffed guineafowl with a colourful summer vegetable medley and a creamy mash to mop up the sauce. Comfort food at its best, without the need to readjust your belt.
The fish of the day is seared Seabass with Provence flavours, piquillos sauce and ratatouille – just what the doctor ordered. (CHF38)
SWEET TREATS FOR THE SOUL

I firmly believe that no soul-searching can be done without cake or chocolate. I go for the Swiss strawberry tart with white chocolate and vanilla cream and Hibuscus meringues! (CHF13)
Too pretty to eat – just kidding! I am a little envious of Alana’s chocolate fondant with pistachio ice-cream. (CHF13)
OUR VERDICT
After a couple of hours, we leave Les Terrasses du 82 feeling nourished in body and soul.
A calming, inspiring experience with a delicious and varied menu. Prices are not cheap, of course, but not outrageous either by Geneva standards.
The perfect location for finding yourself again.
