SWIMMING POOLS OPEN IN GENEVA – HURRAY!

For a while, it looked doubtful that we would be able to enjoy summer this year, especially as many of us have cancelled summer holiday plans. But, thankfully, summer is not totally cancelled, it’s just going to look a bit different this year. We are trying our best to look at the positives. Knowing that pools will be open to cool off – is one of them!
Here are a few of Geneva’s pools which are open or will soon open for summer.
OPEN POOLS IN GENEVA – SUMMER 2020
GENÈVE PLAGE
Geneve Plage opened on Wednesday, June 10, for the 2020 season. To comply with safety regulations, they will be implementing new measures.
The pool will be open during two time slots. The first time slot is 7 am or 9 am (depending on the day) until 2 pm. The next time slot will be 3 pm to 8 pm. There will be cleaning between the two-time slots. Entry will be in order of arrival.
There also will be special prices for this season due to COVID-19. The adult rate will be 5chfs. There are reduced rates of 2.5chfs, see the website below for a specific list of who is eligible for reduced rates.
All subscriptions and 10-entry cards are suspended for the 2020 season and will be carried over to the 2021 season. If you rented a cabin in 2019, you will be able to keep it for the 2020 season free of charge, but you are still required to pay entry. Only security lockers will be available, for pay.
NOTE: New this season – the beach will be open from 7am to 8:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from June 10 to August 30. From August 31 to September 20 they will be open from 7am to 7:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The restaurant and Flamingo beach bar are open, but with reduced menus and opening times, so check the website for specific details. The self-service area is closed for the 2020 season.

PUBLIC SWIMMING POOLS – GENEVA
The indoor and outdoor pools at les Vernets and Varembé will open on Friday, June 12, 2020, with strict protection plans and you need to reserve online. The general public is required to comply with the measures issued by the state while using the pools. Staff will be monitored to ensure compliance.
The pools will open with two-time slots. The first time slot is 9am – 1:30pm and the second one is from 2:30 to 7pm. The time between the two-time slots will be used for cleaning.
This will be the operating hours all week, except on Monday mornings, when Vernets will be closed. The Varembé pool will be closed Tuesday mornings, for maintenance.
The number of people allowed during each time slot will be limited. For Les Vernets swimming pool 420 people will be allowed per session and for Varembé only 270. Tickets for time slots will be available online for purchase. The reservation system will be active starting Friday, June 12 at 2 pm. Tickets for a time slot are available for purchase no earlier than 48 hours before the desired session. A limited number of tickets will be sold on site, but people are encouraged to buy tickets in advance online. Until further notice tickets will be sold at a reduced rate of 3chf for adults and 1.5chfs for specific groups, see website for specific groups.
Changing rooms, lockers, and showers will be accessible but expect queues. Saunas and fitness areas will remain closed.

PISCINE DE MARIGNAC

Marignac pool in Lancy will open on June 20, until September 27, 2020. More information, including an online booking system, will be coming, so refer to the website closer to the date. The procedures will follow state regulations.
They will be doing similar time slots to the other pools with time included for cleaning. You will be required to exit the pool 20 minutes before closing. There will be specific time slots reserved for seniors.
Tickets will be available for purchase online and at the cash desk. Please refer to the website below for specific hours of operations, hours of time slots, and how many tickets will be sold online, as well as at the cash desk because they vary depending on the day.
Currently, only single tickets are available for purchase. Adult ticket prices are 3chfs and 1.5chfs for children under 5 and unemployed/AVS.

PISCINE DES VERGERS
The Piscine des Vergers, in Meyrin, opens on June 20, 2020. Not all the details are available, so check the website below closer to the date for more information.
What they have indicated on the website is that the days will be divided into four periods with approximately 2 hours per time slot. Time will be allowed in between each time slot to allow for cleaning and disinfecting.
Tickets will be available online for purchase beforehand. There will be a telephone number available as an alternative to purchasing tickets online if you do not have access to the internet. Subscriptions will be available, refer to the website for details. Individual tickets for adults cost 3chf and reduction tickets are 1.50chfs.
Paths to pools will be created and the number accessing the pools will be limited. The Olympic pool will primarily be limited to lane swimmers, each lane will limit the number of swimmers at one time. Paddling pool will be limited to a certain number and only one adult monitoring their child is permitted. The slide will be closed. The beach volleyball and children games/play area will be closed.
