LIVE TEDx EVENT – GENEVA
by Chené Koscielny
How do you come up with ideas? How can you be inspired to pursue even your most curious thoughts? How do we define our universe? These are some of the BIG questions that will be pondered at a live TEDx event in Geneva.

The event, which features a host of interesting speakers, takes place at the school on Friday 13th October 2017 at 6pm.

WHAT IS TEDX?
TEDx is a branch of TED talks, created in the spirit of TED’s mission “ideas worth spreading.” It supports independent organisers who want to create a TED-like event in their own community. Anyone can organise one if they are motivated enough and have a concrete idea and are ready to assume the responsibilities.
WHO ORGANISED THE EVENT?
IB student Benedita Velozo, 17, has always wanted to do a TED talk and was encouraged by one of her teachers to look into organising a TEDx event.
She says: “I researched TEDx and applied for a licence. It took about two months to get one, but organising the event took a year.”
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Anyone, particularly young people, keen to explore philosophical thinking and wanting to be inspired to look beyond what we can see.
THE MIND AND BEYOND
The event is presented in the TEDx Youth category because Benedita believes young people should find out more about the universe and themselves from an early age.
“I believe TEDx can have an immense influence and we should be more open to other people’s opinions and theories. This type of event can inspire young people to pursue their curious thoughts.”
The event will look into why expression, thought and culture cannot be defined and will show different perspectives of our world.
WHY YOU SHOULD ORGANISE A TEDX EVENT
Benedita, who plans to go into business, says organising a TEDx event has really helped her to come into her own.
“It’s been about a year, where I learnt to prioritise tasks, created contacts for the future and most importantly, TEDx has strengthened me emotionally. If I can go through my final school year organising a TEDx event, I can do so much more with my life.”
