Chin-chin! Happy New Year! January is the month of resolutions and new beginnings, but in this agenda it is also a month of last chances to experience excellent exhibitions!

EXPLORACENTRE WORKSHOPS

Until January 6

This calendar year’s first school break is an occasion to test workshops in the newly opened Exploracentre – Geneva’s first museum aimed at children. The main exposition is all about touching, manipulating and testing, but in the workshops children really get an opportunity to indulge in science. There are different activities  for different age groups, parents can also participate (and you won’t regret it!). During the ateliers, you child will discover science, the digital world and become more aware of the environment.

WHEN

December 31 – January 6.

WHERE

Exploracentre, 33, rue des Bains

MORE INFO

For tickets and more info click here.

FOURMIS

Until January 6

The first week of the year is the last week to admire the fascinating world of ants in the Geneva’s Natural History Museum. It is an excellent exhibition, with large photographs, models to touch, and knowledge to absorb. The best part, beloved by all children, is the last room – a big space with a giant ants’ maze. Choose an ant and follow her through the glass corridors, see how they work, build, and what they eat. Don’t miss it!

WHEN

Until January 1.

WHERE

Muséum d’histoire naturelle. Route de Malagnou 1, 1208 Genève.

MORE INFO

You can find more details here.

GAËTAN – CHOPE LA BANANE

January 12

One of the most popular singers for kids in the French part of Switzerland, Gaëtan, will be back on stage with his ukulele in Vernier! You might not know him, but there is a big chance your kids already know his songs from school. He has just published a new album, and is on tour with a show called ”Chope la banane”. It is one of those artists and one of the shows, that will make you feel more integrated and will provide you with a fun family afternoon!

WHEN

Saturday, January 12 & 13; 11h & 16h30.

WHERE

Salle du Lignon; Place du Lignon 16, 1219 Le Lignon.

COST

CHF10 per child, CHF20 per adult (different prices for AVS, etc.).

MORE INFO

For more information, please check here on Facebook, or on this website.

LES CONTES SPONTANES

January 13

A unique show for children mixing improvisation, storytelling, theatre and music. A musician and a storyteller enter the stage with nothing to say! They turn to the public to help them come up with: an era, a place, an emotion, a character, the reason for their presence… Together they create stories. It can be a fairy tale, a dark story, or a funny story, always accompanied by original music.

WHEN

January 13, 14h.

WHERE

Théâtre Le Caveau. Avenue Sainte-Clotilde 9 – 1205 Genève

MORE INFO

More info here.

TROPINZUSTE

January 16 – February 3

A new show in the Théâtre des Marionnettes (Puppets Theatre) for kids aged 7 and above. This time it is the story of injustice, this horrible thing that can happen to everyone, everywhere, anytime.

How does injustice transform us? What does it teach us about ourselves? In this first artistic collaboration between the Am Stram Gram Theater and the TMG, it is the eggs that set the tone.

Intrigued? Book your tickets fast, they always disappear quickly.

WHEN

From January 16 until February 3rd.

WHERE

Théâtre des Marionnettes. Rue Rodo 3, 1211 Genève.

MORE INFO

For more info and booking please check here.

DISCO ENFANTS

Friday, January 18

Sharpen your blades, grab your gloves, and enjoy disco on ice with your children in Carouge. Ice skating is the most accessible winter sport that you can experience without a trip out of town. Children love it and have fun. All you need is some courage and gloves. The bar will offer you warmth and comfort with warm beverages, fondue, and other meals and snacks.

WHEN

January 18, 18h.

WHERE

Place de Sardaigne 2 – 1227 Carouge GE

FEE

Free till the age of 6. CHF6 from 6+.

MORE INFO

For the whole program and more details please check this link.

BLACK MOVIE FOR KIDS

January 18 – 27

Black Movie for Kids (15th edition) kicks off on January 18. Some 36 films from 28 countries were hand-picked from among the hundreds reviewed. They’ll put you through some emotional hoops, invite you to reflect on some interesting issues (like difference, disability or ecology). Be sure to check out accompanying workshops and the whole program, including the Mini Black Movie in the children’s all-time favourite – Maison de la Créativité.

WHEN

January 18 – 27.

WHERE

Various locations.

COMPTINES ET JEUX DE DOIGTS

January 22

When La Bulle d’Aire and La Julienne get together to create an event, you can rest assured it will be a good one! This one is designed for children between the ages of 1 and 4. Accompanied by an adult, the children will share the pleasure of singing and playing with their bodies, accompanied by small instruments. A playful and creative way to develop language, relationship and socialisation, and a nice indoor activity in the coldest season of the year!

WHEN

January 22, 9h30 & 10h30

WHERE

La Julienne, maison des arts et de la culture. Route de St-Julien 116, 1228 Plan-les-Ouates

MORE INFO

You can find out more here.

LIVRE-MOI TES HISTOIRES

January 27

Do you know all the secret stories hidden in your children’s picture books? Come to the show and bring one of these books with you to leave on the stage. The actor will use your book in his improvisations and will reinterpret the story. The stories that unveil from these impros are very amusing. It’s an original and interactive show that will surprise not only your children but you as well!

WHEN

January 27, 14h

WHERE

Théâtre le Caveau. 9 av. de Sainte-Clotilde, 1205 Genève.

BRUNCH FOR FAMILIES

January 27

This agenda would not be complete without mentioning at least one event taking place at the Bibi Cafe! A new place in Geneva that offers a real play area for kids, good coffee, good food, and a local shopping experience (offering locally made goods: cosmetics, clothes, books, and more). This month’s highlight is the Sunday Brunch for families. It’s one of the best occasions to visit this place: enjoy your food while the kids play! My advice: book fast, as the tables go very fast.

WHEN

January 27.

WHERE

Bibi Café, Esplanade des Récréations 27, 1217 Meyrin.

MORE INFO

For more details visit Bibi’s website.
