CLUB DE LA PLAGE de l’ONU – UN BEACH CLUB – TOP TIP: CALL A (UN) FRIEND!

We discovered a new ‘secret’ beach – the UN beach club. This is how Geneva works – even after living here for years, you can be surprised by discovering hidden gems you never knew existed.
What a wonderful find!
We were invited to a farewell drinks- and dinner party for a friend working at the UN at this beach, which
is open to UN employees – and their friends!
Although some sources told us it’s open to all, apparently you do need a token UN friend to get in – but it’s not hard to come by those in Geneva.
It is a paid for beach, as it’s small, but it’s well worth checking out – at least once this summer.
GREAT FACILITIES, RESTAURANT AND BAR
You can hire deck chairs or place your towel on the lawn area. From the beach you have stunning views over the lake and the Alps.
Many people come after work during the week, take a dip in the lake and then have a relaxed dinner in their beach gear.
A buvette offers simple lunch- and dinner dishes with seats along the lake front. Further back the super friendly staff of the restaurant serve good quality food such as burgers, salads, meat and fish dishes, accompanied by wines, prosecco and beer.
You can also enjoy cocktails from the bar, so come and see the sun go down with the picturesque ambience of the small port just in front of you and the back drop of Mont Blanc….magnifique!
You access the lake by a set of stairs (sometimes you will need a bit of patience to get in or out due to the number of people wanting to do the same) and swim to the pontoon to ‘hang out.’
Every Friday night during the summer season a band entertains the beachgoers with live music.
Every Saturday there is a BBQ and on Sundays, spoil yourself with a nice brunch.
Parking is a bit tricky if you arrive at prime time but even if you have to walk for 10 minutes, like we did, there is always parking on the right side of Rue de Lausanne
