WHERE TO BUY YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE IN GENEVA 2021
Based on the original article written by Brigitte Taylor
It’s that time of the year again, and after the year we’ve had, why not decorate with the Christmas tree you’ve always dreamed of?
NATURAL SELECTION: THE REAL CHRISTMAS TREE
It’s a big debate, real vs. artificial Christmas tree. We’ll stay out of that one, but here’s where you can find either type of tree in and around Geneva!
One very reliable, sustainable Christmas tree option in the Geneva region is Ecosapin. They offer beautiful, sustainably-sourced Nordmann firs, both cut and in pots, in various sizes. Within a certain radius, trees are delivered by bicycle, to minimize the impact on the environment, and – here’s the kicker – they can be retrieved by Ecosapin after the holidays. Trees in pots are replanted in Ecosapin’s nursery, and cut trees are recycled as biogas. Watch this video on how it all works!
Shop local at this organic farm in Geneva, Ferme Jaquet, that grows and sells GRTA-certified Christmas trees. GRTA is the State of Geneva’s stamp of local quality: Genève Région Terre Avenir, signifying quality, proximity, traceability, and fairness. You can already visit the farm and choose your Christmas tree, which will be reserved for you and made ready for pick-up from 27 November, opening day for buying Christmas trees on the farm. Prices range from CHF 40 to CHF 125, depending on the size of the tree. You can also buy tree stands, as well as fir branches for decoration (CHF 2/branch).
For those who place convenience above all else, Sapin et Decoration is another option. They offer a wide variety of real cut Nordmann firs, ranging from 80-100cm (starting at CHF 89) all the way to 350-400cm (CHF 549), which can be delivered directly to your doorstep. To top it off, they also offer a service to personalize and decorate the tree for you – or even your home – for an additional fee.

FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT: THE ARTIFICIAL CHRISTMAS TREE

There are endless possibilities here, to suit every person, every taste, every budget.
It will come as no surprise that you can rely on the usual suspects to find an artificial fir: Globus, Manor, Migros, Jumbo… the list goes on.
But for those who are willing to spend a little extra cash and go for an artificial Christmas tree which will not only look realistic but also last many years, Schilliger is truly the way to go (they sell real Christmas trees, too!). Evergreen or lightly dusted with snow, trees start at just 40cm (CHF 29,90) and go all the way to 360cm (CHF 1,990). And for those who are into something slightly more whimsical for this magical time of year, why not go for a 230cm, upside-down Christmas tree? This centrepiece is sure to get people talking all year round. They also have a great video on how to decorate your Christmas tree in 5 steps, if you could use some good advice from the pros!
