English Afternoon Tea in Rolle
by Chené Koscielny
Eating scones and cream and Victoria sandwich cake in a romantic garden, overlooking the lake while sipping tea… not a bad way to spend a Sunday afternoon. We recently had the pleasure of trying L’afternoon tea at La Noyère – one of our favourite places near Geneva. Read Vivian’s article here. With at least two of our party being English, we were wondering if the afternoon tea would live up to expectations, but we needn’t have worried.
We arrived in the village of Mont-sur-Rolle (between Geneva and Lausanne) on a boiling hot afternoon and stepped into an oasis. The beautiful floral garden in front of the 18th century ‘Maison de Maître’, where Anne-Catherine and Anne-Claude host their amazing and popular gastronomy/floristry workshops.
A glass of chilled Prosecco
We took a seat at one of the beautifully decorated tables dotted around the garden and started to relax. A glass of chilled Prosecco was just what the doctor ordered. Soon each table was presented with their own generous cake stand filled to the brim with typical English tea delicacies:
The English Afternoon Tea
- A selection of Cucumber, Smoked Salmon and Egg Sandwiches (crustless, of course)
- Scones with Strawberry Jam – and wait for it… real clotted cream! (the scones were a bit smaller than the mountainous English variety though)
- Victoria Sandwich Slices
- Mini Fruit Cake
- Mini Raspberry Cupcakes
Over the next two hours we worked our way through the delicious selection, all washed down with bottomless pots of English tea – followed by a lovely chilled lemon tea.
We went home with happy smiles and even a little take-away box of leftovers for the kids.
COST: CHF32 – great value for money, we thought!
The next afternoon teas take place on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th of August from 3pm.
