Aida, an opera by Giuseppe Verdi, takes place in the Egypt of the Pharaohs. Aida, an Ethiopian princess reduced to slavery after the defeat of her people, is to serve at court as Princess Amneris’s lady-in-waiting. To her misfortune, Aida falls in love with General Radames, whom Amneris hopes to marry. Radames obviously only burns for Aida ….
British Phelim McDermott creates a production that invites the public to take a fresh look at the inhabitants of ancient Egypt and their culture, while reflecting on the world in which we live. The musical direction is entrusted to the expert hands of Antonino Fogliani, in Geneva for the first time, the conductor revisits this score with the Orchestra de la Suisse Romande and some of the great Verdian voices of the moment.
