Rue Baylon 2
1227 Carouge
Surrounded by his two wives – Queen Marguerite and Queen Marie – his doctor, and two servants, King Berenger the First learns that he has an hour and a half to live. In 1962, following a serious illness, Eugène Ionesco wrote Exit the King, as if to ward off death. He brings to stage the drama of the throes of death and explores human anguish in the face of death, when man is brought back to his fundamental nature. Exit the King is not however a sad play! It is tinged with humour and offers a means of escape in this state of crisis. A lesson in dignity in the face of destiny!
