FATHER’S DAY 2018 IN GENEVA
by Chené Koscielny and Vivian Holding
Father’s Day doesn’t appear to get nearly as much attention in Geneva or Switzerland for that matter as Mother’s Day. We just don’t think that’s fair!
How about cutting dad some slack this Father’s Day on 3rd of June 2018 in Geneva with some of our suggestions to spoil the man or dad in your life.
(OK, so there may be a few gender clichés in here, but it’s the thought that counts, right?!).
FOR THE FOODIE DAD
If dad’s into his food, why not treat him to a pint or two with a yummy steak or fish and chips at Steak Fish and Beef in the Old Town. The restaurant is trendy, the service is fab, the beers are great and the prices reasonable for Geneva.
A full English breakfast at Marcel’s in Eaux-Vives may just hit the spot – but they also have loads of healthy brunch options, including a super healthy superfood bowl.
Alternatively, check out our favourite brunch spots here – all open on Sundays.
If he loves a good curry, why not grab a take-away on Sunday night from the new Naan&Grill in Plainpalais?
FOR THE BEER CONNOISSEUR
The beer-loving dad is easy to please with a great choice of artisanal micro breweries, beer brasseries or cafés, including:
Brasserie du Mont Salève, Brasserie du Père Jakob, Brasserie de la Pièce, Brasserie du Virage and La Brasserie des Tours.
We also recommend Au Coin Mousse – a lively bar that prides itself on serving 21 different types of optimum-stored and perfectly served beer, in Les Grottes. Read our review here.
Also read our article on what we consider to be Geneva’s craft beer library.
How about promising him a day at the annual Festibière de Genève 2018 coming up on the 14th-16th June in Carouge? Labelled the hottest craft beer festival in French-speaking Switzerland, with no less than 25 brewers involved and 150 craft beers to taste! That’ll keep him happy!

FOR THE TRENDY DAD
If Dad loves a bit of grooming, Dandy’s Barber Lounge is a great option for a trendy haircut or shave in a cool environment with great vibes (and old-fashioned LPs!) and even a glass of wine or a beer on offer!
The Total Deluxe Package is the perfect gift for the special man in your life. At CHF130, a Full Service Hair Cut and Traditional Hot Lather Wet Shave is offered, served with foie gras on toast with fig jam and sel de Guérande (or smoked salmon on toast on request for pescatarians) and a glass of wine. Alternatively, book a father/son bonding experience – a Dandy Classic Haircut and Upcoming Generation Haircut (for under 13s) served with a glass of wine or a beer for dad and a juice, all for CHF80.
FOR THE CREATIVE DAD
If he’s into his photography or his skills behind the camera leave a little to be desired, why not book him onto a course with the Swiss Photo Club? Courses are run in both English or French and there’s a course for every level, from beginner and intermediate level, mobile phone photography, family portraiture, photoshop as well as fine art nude photography. Click here to find out more.
FOR THE MUSIC LOVER
Book a ticket for one of the upcoming music festivals – such as the Guitare-en-Scene Festival, the Montreux Jazz Festival or Caribana Festival – check out our list of future things to do for more information.
FOR THE SPORTY DAD
If dad’s into cycling, he’ll love Urbanride – a trendy, spinning studio with cool music and kickass instructors. Read our review.
Also, if he’s into fitness, we personally recommend a few hard-core boot-camp sessions in Parc Bastion with Master-Trainer ‘WESTROK’ Coleman: Former Equinox NY Coach.
Great workouts with a fierce trainer (who is far less intimidating in real life than he sounds!).
Great value for money. Find out more on his website.
FOR THE PETROL HEAD
The 2018 edition of the Swiss Car Event takes place in the halls of Palexpo on the 23rd and 24th of June 2018 with no fewer than 12,000 enthusiasts expected to come and feast their eyes on more than 1,200 customised cars.
