HARMONY GENEVA MARATHON
by Vivian Holding
Did you know that you don’t necessarily need to be a runner to participate in the marathon?
The Harmony Geneva Marathon in aid of Unicef, takes places on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th May 2017.
There are eight different events taking place over the weekend, starting on the Saturday 6th, with the less strenuous events of La Genevoise (a 6.5km race for women only), junior races (1-5km for 6-15 year olds) as well as a 10km race which is open to runners as well as walkers. Y
Things get a little more serious on the Sunday 7th with the full marathon, as well as the relay marathon (for between 4-6 participants), the half marathon and wheelchair race.
The 10km walkers’ course starts at the Avenue de Bel-Air in Chêne Bourg at 7.45pm and winds its way through the beautiful countryside via Vandeouvres and Cologny. Walking in the evening air, just as the sun is setting is a magical experience. The whole of Geneva lit up from the vantage point high up in Cologny, before the route dips down to the lakeside and towards the Jardin Anglais.
So, if running really isn’t your thing, but you like the idea of doing something sporty for a good cause, then this is the event for you – think of the looks on your friends’ faces when you tell friends you’ve participated in the Geneva Marathon.
If you’re interested in participating, sign up via the website asap. See you at the starting line!
