COULD AN ORGANIC SERUM BE BETTER ‘SKIN FOOD’?
We test an award-winning organic face serum by Geneva-based company Swiss Toniq.

I’ve always had my doubts about face creams. Mainly because of the inflated prices and lack of evidence that they make a jot of difference. Also, because I’ve had my fair share of allergic reactions or breakouts and even dry skin patches after trying different creams.
(I’m also very cynical by nature and sadly, don’t believe in miracles.)
WHY YOUR FACE CREAM MAY BE BAD FOR YOU
Geneva-based entrepreneur Fiona Nichols, owner of award-winning organic beauty range Swiss Toniq, also doesn’t believe in face creams.
In fact, on her YouTube channel HERE she gives people 3 reasons why they should stop using face cream.
I recently stumbled across her video and I was intrigued enough to test her alternative to face cream. Stay tuned.
Fiona says: “We have become very health conscious and worry about what we eat and how much we exercise, but do you ever think about what you are putting on your face? How healthy is the ‘food’ for your skin?”
FIONA’S 3 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD STOP USING FACE CREAM
TOO MUCH WATER
Most face creams are made up with lots of water – up to 90%, which means there are precious few real ingredients – the product is bulked up with water, says Fiona. Check out the label on your face creams and you’ll notice the high water content in many of these products.
Where there is lots of water – there has to be chemicals, says Fiona. This is because water forms bacteria quickly when you open and touch products – so companies have to include chemicals, but some of these chemicals could cause imbalances, allergies and even cancer.
But the dose is tiny, I hear you say. “Sure”, says Fiona, “but the problem is that many people use the product day after day, often twice a day and combine different beauty products that also contain chemicals so the accumulation is huge.”
Another problem with water, is that water attracts water – and according to Fiona, this means the water is drawn out by the face cream from the depth of the cells to the exterior surface where it evaporates, causing a vicious cycle of dry skin needing more moisturizer.
SO, WHAT SHOULD WE USE?
Fiona believes in face serums – and her advanced repair anti-age face serum (under 55 years) has just won Best European Organic Anti-Age Serum 2020 in the Health, Beauty and Wellness awards.
ARE SERUMS BETTER FOR YOUR SKIN?
Why Fiona believes serums are better for your skin:
- They usually contain higher quality ingredients
- Serums are made up out of finer particles which are easy to absorb into skin.
- They generally contain no water and are therefore much concentrated with pure ingredients
The Swiss Toniq anti-aging serum is an all-in-one anti-aging product and moisturizer containing 100% organic ingredients – Fiona calls these ingredients “pure skin food.”
The ingredients are raw (they have not been processed) and have performed well in clinical tests.
One of the key ingredients is something called MossCellTec™ which has won several prestigious awards.
Some of the benefits of the anti-age serum listed on the Swiss Toniq website include:
- Reduces wrinkle depth in 30 minutes
- Promotes Collagen
- Produces an immediate lifting and tightening effect
- Moisturises all-day
- Gives complexion a youthful look
Fiona calls it an all-in-one health ‘bomb’ for your face!
All you have to do is wash your face, apply the serum and off you go!

So, I have been using the Swiss Toniq anti-age serum for a couple of weeks now and I love the feeling on my skin. It certainly makes me feel younger with a bit more radiance and sparkle; ) My skin feels nourished and not dry all day.
It has a wonderful smell and even though I’m not holding my breath that I’m going to look 15 years younger soon, I do enjoy using this product and it is certainly a lot more affordable than many of the expensive big name brands out there.

OTHER SWISS TONIQ PRODUCTS
Swiss Toniq has a range of other products including the Skin Therapy Moisturizing Facial Polish Exfoliator, which honestly is the best I’ve ever used. (CHF25)
I have an oily skin and tend to overuse exfoliators which causes even more oiliness. This product is a great exfoliator, but leaves the skin silky smooth. I have ordered one for every member of the family.
Other products include a rebalancing organic shampoo bar, genuine Dead Sea mud mask and gorgeous cocoa butter melting bath truffles.
The delivery is prompt and the packaging of the products is gorgeous.
With the collaboration of a well known Swiss Biochemist and organic cosmetics laboratory, Swiss Toniq was founded by British born mother and ex professional horse breeder and rider, Fiona Nicholls in 2017.
