HELP YOUR CHILD GET UP TO SPEED THIS SUMMER
Are you worried your child has been falling behind in class or struggling with key concepts? Maybe exams are coming up and he or she is already stressing? Or maybe he or she just lacks a bit of confidence.
Holiday booster courses can be a great way to help your child get back on track or even ahead of the pack. Attending holiday booster courses can help to keep the ‘summer slide’ at bay, boosting your child’s confidence when they return to school in September.
HOW TO SELL A SUMMER CLASS TO YOUR CHILD
How do you sell this idea to your child, who may not be overly keen to swap the sunshine and hanging out with friends for more lessons!
We speak to Elaine Zameck, co-ordinator of the IIL Campzone – a new multi-activity holiday camp offered by the International Institute de Lancy (IIL) for ages 4 up to 16. She shares her tips for avoiding a battle over holiday learning.
GIVE THEM A BREAK
The final few weeks of the summer term are exhausting. Give your child chance to relax and catch up on their sleep by planning to do no work at all for a week or two.
NEGOTIATE
Try a summer class that is only ½ day. This gives kids a balance between the extra learning and summer fun.
You could also offer ‘rewards’ or incentives such as a special treat or day out of his or her choice – to help to motivate them to attend a course and work hard while they’re there.
BUILDING CONFIDENCE
If your child if falling a little behind, some extra practice or personalised support can make all the difference. Summer classes are usually smaller classes with a high teacher to pupil ratio allowing children to be part of a group whilst receiving individual attention.
MAKING FRIENDS
Choosing a class-based holiday booster course gives your child an opportunity to have a fun, sociable learning experience. Summer classes with others also help children feel they are not the only ones who need a boost.
