SWISSBOXCOFFEE
EAUX-VIVES
by Fernanda Silva
A cosy little coffee shop in the centre of the buzzing Eaux-Vives district packs big punches with its local products and superior Swiss quality.
Swissboxcoffee, only two blocks away from the lake, is perfect for a petit dejeuner, coffee pause, a homemade hot lunch or salad and fresh juice or an evening apero with friends. This is also the place to enjoy an original Swiss brunch on Sundays with delicious cheeses and dry meat!
THE MENU
The menu is traditionally Swiss and all products are from the region and of superior quality. The menu promotes Swiss heritage through their choice of ingredients, like fruits and vegetables grown by local producers and the items on the menu changes with the season.
The lunch menu entailshomemade Swiss creations produced by Ernest, a delicatessen in Lausanne. The meals are tastefully packaged in environmentally friendly glass jars and delivered to Swissboxcoffee to eat on the spot or to take away.
Some of the offerings include a creamy mushroom risotto, green lasagne with ricotta, lemon zest, asparagus and tomatoes and cabillaud in a spicy creamed coconut sauce on a bed of sweet potatoes and roasted courgettes.
Lighter meals include a lentil , beetroot and goat’s cheese salad with sunflower seeds and several soups and gaspachos, including a asperges and pear soup!
For dessert I tried the raspberry, speculoos and mascarpone mousse – which was definitely more-ish.
(Average price for main meal: CHF16)
(Average price for dessert: CHF5.90)
THE VIBE
The shop’s interesting design – shaped like a box – along with the dimmed lights, comfy seats and scattered cushions, make you feel cocooned and relaxed, as if you’re in your own lounge.
SWISS EXCELLENCE
Swissboxcoffee has a little grocery corner, showcasing local products for you to take home such as marmalade or honey from Geneva, organic coffee from Carasso, pastries from the Pierre & Jean bakery in Lausanne, chocolates from Du Rhône and localbeers, ciders and wine.
THE TEAM
Opened in October 2017, the shop is currently run by Laetitia Burgi, a true Genevoise who studied Hospitality at the hotel school in Lausanne. Owners, Anna and Christophe Gallier, are Swiss entrepreneurs who work in different fields but who really wanted to open a shop promoting the Swiss heritage, particularly from Geneva, Canton de Vaud, Fribourg and other local regions.
TOP TIP
Swissboxcoffee regularly hosts events to present the variety of their products; such as chocolate and wine tastings.
