BARCELONA IS THE BEST (11-YEAR-OLD)

by Sylvie Wainwright

Sylvie Wainwright who lives in Geneva, explains why Barcelona is the coolest place – even if you have to take your parents. But steer clear of the tapas! Yuk.

SYLVIE (11)

I loved Barcelona for so many reasons, if I told you all of them I’d be writing this forever so I’ll just write the main ones.

Barcelona was different to anywhere I’d been before. Everyone was so nice and open and in every direction, there’s something to look at, either shops, bakeries, old buildings, flowers or street musical acts. In Barcelona the weather is amazing, we didn’t have one bad day while we were there (October). Barcelona’s especially beautiful at night time with lights everywhere. Another great thing about Barcelona is that all the people I ran into were really kind and helpful.

TAPAS NOT MY THING

My mum and I arrived at lunchtime and went straight to the hotel where we met up with my mum’s friend and her daughter, my friend. We were staying in the Sagrada Familia area. We got unpacked and headed out to have lunch in the Boqueria market. It was super cool, there were over a hundred different stores, selling over a hundred different things. It was nearly impossible to choose what to have, but in the end I had a traditional bocadillo sandwich, and my mum got some tapas. They said it was delicious but it LOOKED ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!

SIGHTSEEING AND SHOPPING

My highlight of my holiday was seeing the Sagrada Familia built by Antoni Gaudi, the most beautiful, amazing and flawless building I’ve ever seen in my life. It is MASSIVE – 172 m high. Everything was so detailed and wonderful, you’d think you were in a movie. The inside was truly extraordinary, it was full of life, colours flying everywhere. If you were to go to Barcelona and see the Sagrada Familia, I recommend taking the audio tour. It explains everything and gives you some fun facts to hang on to.

After our visit to the Sagrada Familia, we spent 3-4 hours shopping!!!!!!!!!?.

A MAGICAL WATER SHOW

One evening, we went to see a water fountain show, IT WAS AWESOME. It was like the water was dancing to the song that they were playing. The water went so high and the colours were so bright. After the magic fountain show was finished we went back to the hotel and fell asleep. One of the best things about the water fountain show, is if you get tired you can leave whenever you want and it’s free. I’d also suggest you get there early to get the best seats.

A FANTASTIC FOOD TOUR

The following day we did a fantastic food tour. The link can be found here. They took us to bakeries and tried these delicious pastries called Xuixo pronounced “chou chous”. We also went to a food market and saw some cool buildings.

MORE SIGHTSEEING AND SHOPPING!

The next and the last day of our holiday we went sightseeing. First we went to Park Güell and it wasn’t that impressive because they were doing some construction work and some of the benches were covered, but that was just bad luck. My mum said usually it’s magnificent.

We went off to the shops again – the shops in Barcelona are fantastic (I’m talking to you girls and ladies!) as it’s quite cheap and they’ve got great service – especially the clothes shops, they were a highlight. Then we got our nails done at a salon and then went to the beach.

PROVING MY MUM WRONG

My mum said it was going to be too cold to swim in the water, well I proved her wrong and my friends and I swam in it for an hour. It is cold when you first get in but when you get used to it it’s warm. Then we went home got changed and rushed back out and went for dinner at a restaurant.

FOOT STOMPING FLAMENCO FUN

The place we went to was called Palau Dalmases (click here). It was really fun and the dancers were so talented and amazing. It was a Flamenco dancing place and everything was so dramatic and loud. I couldn’t hear anything but dancers stomping their feet as hard as they could. It was really fun, on the way back we saw an outside concert happening and we all started dancing like crazy and trying to sing the songs, while having NO IDEA who sung them and what they were about.

THE END OF OUR STAY

The next and last day of Barcelona we packed up and went for some breakfast at a nearby bakery. Then sadly, we headed back home to Geneva.

I hope my article gave you some ideas of things to do, if or when you go to Barcelona. My quick list of things to do in Barcelona are:

  • See some Flamenco Dancing
  • See the Sagrada Familia
  • GO SHOPPING
  • Go to the Beach
  • GO SHOPPING SOME MORE
  • Try a Xuixo
  • Go Sightseeing and see the Water Fountain Show

My conclusion is that BARCELONA ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!! And I think anyone who loves a beautiful, adventurous city, will love it. That will be all from me byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
