Doin’ My Drugs Premieres in Switzerland for “Zero Discrimination Day” @ Cinéma CINÉRAMA EMPIRE

Swiss Premiere of Doin’ My Drugs in Geneva followed by a discussion: HIV: 40 years Later, Discrimination Still Kills, with Film subject, recording artist and AIDS activist Thomas Muchimba Buttenschøn; Doin’ My Drugs Documentary director Tyler Q Rosen; Executive Director of the International AIDS Society, Kevin Osborne and Charlotte Sector, the Multimedia Communications Manager of the United Nations (ONU) UNAIDS.
Doin’ My Drugs is the story of musician Thomas Muchimba Buttenschøn—born HIV-positive in 1985—and his crusade to use his music to wipe out AIDS in his native Zambia and beyond. Doin’ My Drugs aims to raise awareness about the ongoing HIV/AIDS epidemic in Zambia—a country of 17 million people where more than 1.2 million are HIV-positive or have the disease. Zambia’s situation is mirrored throughout the developing world.
A father to two young children, Buttenschøn has kept his HIV in check and his family virus-free, by “doin’ his drugs.” He recognized that his native Zambia remains trapped in a horrific and senseless AIDS crisis. While a significant percentage of the population there is infected with HIV, many antiretroviral drug treatment programs that keep the virus dormant—“a near-zero viral load” as Buttenschøn says—are widely available through government programs for free.

39TH AMR JAZZ FESTIVAL @ AMR, Alhambta & L’Auditoire Calvin
Mar 11 @ 7:00 pm – Mar 15 @ 10:00 pm
39TH AMR JAZZ FESTIVAL @ AMR, Alhambta & L’Auditoire Calvin

39th Jazz Festival – 11th to 15th March 2020

As every year during its festival, AMR celebrates original jazz, improvised music and sound exploration again and again.  From Irreversible entanglement to Lucia Cadotsch, including Gregor Ftiçar and Cédric Gysler, local and international programming is rightly mixed.  Here is the 39th edition, which is aimed at both initiates and the curious, in three different places, with eleven concerts, a film screening, an internship, a jam and a double exhibition of photos and posters.

Viva la Musica!

The AMR varies the pleasure of the festivities in various places: three evenings of double concerts in the Sud des Alpes (11th, 12th & 13th).  L’Auditoire Calvin for a concert in three parts on Sunday 15th: jazz with organ at tea time in the den of a Calvinist, you had to dare!  The legendary Alhambra hosts the evenings of Saturday 14th (Kenny Baron and Dave Holland) and Sunday 15th to end the festival on a Nordico-Berlin note with the quintet Koma Saxo.

Founded in 1973 by musicians, the Association for the encouragement of improvised music (AMR) aims to encourage, help and promote, in Geneva and its region, the development and practice of jazz and music improvised, mostly from African-American music.  It has developed on three dimensions: training, work support and dissemination.
