OUR EXPAT OF THE MONTH: DECEMBER 2020
by Alexandra Osváth
Name: Simiso Dlodlo
How long have you been in Geneva?
I first moved here in 2010, 10 years ago, but I was in and out for a number of years. I moved here full time in early 2018.
Favourite restaurant?
There are so many good spots here! I hope I can take up a few lines and wish all our restaurants and their owners and staff the best going ahead and hoping that we, the customers, will continue to support them as best as we can.
I’ll give more than one name, because it’s hard choose one…
For brunch, you must get a table at Marcel or White Rabbit! If you go to Marcel, you have to try their waffles and French Toast… oh and the Fennel salad. White Rabbit is the best for scrambled eggs and the full avocado toast experience with a very Instagrammable interior thrown in!
For dinner, I would say ALMA, a Peruvian Restaurant in Eaux Vives!
Favourite outdoor thing to do?
Walking. Geneva is perfect for walking, whether you live in the city or closer to la campagne! I walk a lot around my area, often on a Sunday.
Best secret place in Geneva?
There is a great little “beach” on the lake at Bellevue, just outside the city. I love everything about it and especially the fact that not too many people know about it.
Something you love about Geneva?
I remember when I first moved here, this city was like an oasis and I loved every single thing. Over time, I probably let the fascination fade but I would say, it’s the city’s history in international diplomacy and the evidence of it all around. The quaint old town, the very international population and of course, the fact that no matter where you stand, the view is always quite something. I also highly appreciate the short distance to the airport!
Something funny you love about Switzerland?
I love the custom of doing absolutely nothing on Sundays as far as work and chores go. I was completely surprised by this at first, but I’ll admit, it has grown on me.
